Why zappi owners need smarter cost tracking

The myenergi zappi is the gold standard for solar-integrated EV charging. Its ability to divert surplus solar energy to your car is a game-changer for anyone with rooftop PV panels. But while the zappi is brilliant at managing energy, tracking what your charging actually costs can be surprisingly tricky.

When your car charges from a mix of solar surplus and grid electricity, a simple "kWh times price" calculation does not cut it. You need to know how much of each session came from the grid and how much was free solar energy. That is exactly what LadeKosten does.

By pulling detailed energy data from the myenergi cloud, LadeKosten gives you an accurate picture of your real charging costs. Solar energy is tracked but not priced. Grid energy is costed at your actual rate. The result is a clear, honest view of what you are spending.

How the integration works

The myenergi ecosystem centers around the myenergi hub, which connects your zappi, eddi, harvi, and libbi devices to the internet. All data is synced to the myenergi cloud, where it is accessible via their API.

LadeKosten connects to this API using Digest Authentication, which requires your hub serial number and an API key. This is a secure, well-established authentication method that protects your credentials during transmission.

Once authenticated, LadeKosten reads your zappi's session history. Each session includes detailed energy breakdowns: how many kWh came from the grid, how many from solar diversion, and how many from a combination. The app also captures charging duration, peak power, and timestamps.

LadeKosten applies your electricity rate only to the grid portion of each session. Solar energy is recorded for your reference but correctly excluded from cost calculations. This gives you the most accurate cost picture possible.

Supported models

The zappi lineup is straightforward:

  • zappi V2 - The current model available in 7 kW (single-phase) and 22 kW (three-phase) variants. Full support for all charging modes including Fast, ECO, and ECO+.
  • zappi V1 - The original model. Still fully functional with the myenergi hub and supported by LadeKosten via the same cloud API.

Both models require a myenergi hub for internet connectivity. If your zappi is connected and visible in the myenergi app, it will work with LadeKosten.

Setting up zappi with LadeKosten

To get started, you need two pieces of information from your myenergi system: your hub serial number and your API key. You can find both in the myenergi app under the hub settings section.

Open LadeKosten, navigate to wallbox setup, and select myenergi zappi. Enter your hub serial number and API key. LadeKosten verifies the connection and shows your available devices.

Select your zappi, and the app begins syncing your charging history. If you have multiple zappi chargers, perhaps one at home and one at a holiday property, each can be tracked independently.

Configure your grid electricity rate, and LadeKosten calculates the cost for each session. If you also want to track the value of your solar energy, you can set a feed-in tariff rate to see how much money you saved by charging from the sun instead of the grid.

Feature highlights

Solar vs. grid energy split - The headline feature. LadeKosten shows you exactly how much of each charging session came from your solar panels versus the grid. This is unique to the zappi integration and incredibly valuable for understanding your true costs.

ECO mode tracking - Whether you use Fast, ECO, or ECO+ charging, LadeKosten captures the correct energy data. ECO mode sessions that blend solar and grid are itemized accurately.

Savings visualization - See how much money your solar panels have saved you on EV charging. Over a year, this can be a significant amount, and LadeKosten quantifies it clearly.

Seasonal analysis - Solar production varies dramatically between summer and winter. LadeKosten's historical data lets you see how your charging costs change with the seasons and plan accordingly.

Tax-ready documentation - For company car drivers, you need to document your grid electricity costs for tax deductions. LadeKosten generates reports that separate grid from solar, so your tax documentation is accurate and defensible.

Multi-device awareness - If your myenergi system includes an eddi for hot water diversion or a libbi battery, LadeKosten focuses on your zappi data while understanding the broader energy context.

Making the most of zappi and LadeKosten

The zappi's strength is its intelligence around solar energy. Paired with LadeKosten, you get full visibility into the financial side of that intelligence. You can see, for example, that your summer charging cost you nearly nothing because 90% came from solar, while winter sessions relied more heavily on the grid.

This data helps you make smarter decisions. Should you charge overnight on a cheap off-peak tariff, or wait for tomorrow's sunshine? LadeKosten gives you the cost history to inform that choice.

How to set it up

1

Enter your myenergi hub credentials

Open LadeKosten and select myenergi zappi. Enter your myenergi hub serial number and API key, which you can find in the myenergi app under hub settings.

2

Select your zappi device

If your myenergi system has multiple devices, choose the zappi charger you want to track. LadeKosten identifies each device by its serial number.

3

Track charging and solar diversion

LadeKosten syncs your charging sessions and distinguishes between grid energy and solar surplus energy. Your cost calculations reflect only the grid electricity you actually paid for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the myenergi zappi integration available now?

The zappi integration is currently planned. We are developing it using the myenergi cloud API with Digest Authentication. Sign up for the waitlist to be the first to know when it launches.

Does LadeKosten track how much solar energy went into my car?

Yes. The zappi reports grid and solar energy separately, and LadeKosten uses this data to calculate your true charging costs. Energy from your solar panels is tracked as free, so only grid energy is counted toward your costs.

Which zappi models are supported?

LadeKosten will support the zappi V1 and zappi V2, both in single-phase and three-phase configurations. Any zappi connected to a myenergi hub with internet access is compatible.

I use ECO and ECO+ modes. How does LadeKosten handle these?

LadeKosten reads the energy data regardless of charging mode. In ECO mode, your car charges from a mix of solar and grid. In ECO+, it uses only solar surplus. LadeKosten tracks the actual energy split for each session and costs only the grid portion.
