Why Zaptec users should care about ChargeDoc

Zaptec is the dominant EV charger brand in Norway and Sweden, and it is rapidly expanding across Europe. Known for its sleek Zaptec Go and the commercial-grade Zaptec Pro, the brand has built a strong reputation for quality and smart energy management.

The Zaptec Portal and app give you a solid overview of your charging activity. But when it comes to tracking what your charging actually costs you in euros or kroner, and especially when you need that data for tax purposes, there is a gap. ChargeDoc will fill it.

Whether you charge your company EV at home or simply want to understand your electricity spending, ChargeDoc will transform raw session data into clear cost breakdowns and exportable reports.

How the integration will work

Zaptec operates a cloud-based system where all charger data is synced to the Zaptec cloud. ChargeDoc will connect to this data through the Zaptec Cloud API using OAuth2 authentication, which is the most secure method available.

When you set up the integration, ChargeDoc will redirect you to Zaptec's own login page. You sign in there and grant ChargeDoc permission to read your charging data. At no point will ChargeDoc see or store your Zaptec password. Instead, the app will receive an OAuth2 token that provides read-only access to your sessions.

This token-based approach means you stay in control. If you ever want to disconnect ChargeDoc, you will be able to revoke the token from the Zaptec Portal and the connection is severed immediately.

Once authorized, ChargeDoc will periodically sync your charging sessions. Each session includes the energy delivered in kWh, start and end timestamps, charging power profile, and the charger identifier. The app will apply your configured electricity rate to calculate the cost.

Planned models

Zaptec's product lineup is focused and consistent, which makes integration straightforward:

  • Zaptec Go - The residential charger with up to 22 kW and a minimalist design. Perfect for home installations. Full session tracking and cost calculation are planned.
  • Zaptec Pro - Designed for multi-unit buildings, workplaces, and commercial properties. Supports load balancing across many chargers. ChargeDoc will track your individual sessions within the larger installation.
  • Zaptec Park - The outdoor-rated charger for parking facilities. Same cloud connectivity, same planned ChargeDoc features.

All Zaptec chargers communicate through the same cloud platform, so the integration will work identically regardless of your model.

Setting up Zaptec with ChargeDoc

You will start by opening ChargeDoc and navigating to the wallbox setup. Select Zaptec, and the app will open a secure browser window to the Zaptec login page. Enter your Zaptec Portal credentials and approve the connection.

Back in ChargeDoc, you will see a list of your Zaptec installations and chargers. If you have a single charger at home, there is just one to select. If you are part of a larger installation, like an apartment building with shared chargers, pick your specific unit.

Set your electricity rate, and ChargeDoc will sync your session history. Past sessions will be imported with full details so you have a complete cost picture from the start.

The entire setup will take under three minutes and only needs to be done once. The OAuth2 token will handle re-authentication automatically.

Planned feature highlights

Secure OAuth2 authorization - The gold standard for API security. Your Zaptec credentials will never be shared with ChargeDoc. You will authenticate directly with Zaptec and grant read-only access.

Multi-tenant support - Zaptec is popular in apartment buildings and shared facilities. ChargeDoc will correctly identify and track your personal sessions, even in installations with hundreds of charge points.

Accurate energy metering - Zaptec chargers include high-quality built-in meters, often MID-certified. ChargeDoc will use these readings for precise cost calculations.

Historical sync - Your past charging sessions will be imported when you connect, so you do not start with an empty history. This will be especially useful if you want to document costs for a period you have already completed.

Dynamic electricity pricing - If you are on a variable-rate electricity contract, common in the Nordics, ChargeDoc will let you configure time-based rates so each session is priced at the rate that actually applied when you charged.

Clean tax exports - Export your charging cost data in formats suitable for tax filing. For company car drivers in Germany, this documentation can save you significant money at tax time.

The Nordic connection

Zaptec's popularity in Norway and Sweden means many users are already familiar with smart charging and energy management. In these markets, electricity prices fluctuate hourly, and knowing exactly what each charging session costs is not just nice to have, it is essential for managing your household budget.

ChargeDoc is built with this reality in mind. The app supports flexible rate configurations that can reflect time-of-use pricing, seasonal variations, and even integration with spot price feeds in the future.

The step-by-step guide below describes the planned flow and applies once the integration is available.

How to set it up

1

Authorize ChargeDoc with your Zaptec account

Once the integration is available, open ChargeDoc and select Zaptec from the wallbox list. You will be redirected to the Zaptec login page where you grant ChargeDoc read access to your charging data via secure OAuth2.

2

Choose your installation

You will select the Zaptec installation and specific charger you want to track. ChargeDoc will support both single-charger homes and multi-charger setups in apartment buildings.

3

Your charging costs are tracked automatically

ChargeDoc will sync sessions from the Zaptec cloud and calculate your costs based on your electricity rate. All data will be available for export and tax documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Zaptec integration available now?

The Zaptec integration is currently planned. We are building it on top of Zaptec's well-documented Cloud API with OAuth2 authentication. Join the waitlist to get notified when it becomes available.

Which Zaptec chargers will be supported?

ChargeDoc will support the Zaptec Go, Zaptec Pro, and Zaptec Park. Any charger managed through the Zaptec Portal will be compatible since they all use the same cloud API. The integration is currently planned.

I live in an apartment with a shared Zaptec installation. Will this work?

Yes. Zaptec's API identifies individual chargers and users within shared installations. ChargeDoc will track only your sessions, even if dozens of chargers are on the same installation. RFID-authenticated sessions will be attributed correctly.

How secure will the OAuth2 connection be?

OAuth2 is the industry standard for secure API authorization. ChargeDoc will request only read access to your charging data. We will never see your Zaptec password, and you will be able to revoke access at any time from the Zaptec Portal.
