Why Fronius Wattpilot and LadeKosten belong together

The Fronius Wattpilot is not just a wallbox. It is the charging component of the Fronius solar ecosystem. When paired with a Fronius inverter and a Fronius Smart Meter, the Wattpilot knows exactly how much solar surplus is available and adjusts your EV charging accordingly.

This is powerful for reducing your electricity bill, but it also creates a tracking challenge. How much did that charging session actually cost when part of it came from your solar panels, part from the grid, and the charging power varied throughout?

LadeKosten solves this by reading the detailed energy data from your Wattpilot and applying smart cost calculations. Solar energy is free. Grid energy is priced at your rate. The result is an accurate cost figure for every single session.

How the integration works

The Fronius Wattpilot offers two communication paths, and LadeKosten supports both.

Local WiFi via WebSocket - The Wattpilot runs a WebSocket server on your local network. LadeKosten connects to it directly, receiving real-time updates about charging status, power, and energy consumption. This is the fastest method with zero cloud dependency. The connection uses a device-specific password for authentication.

Cloud via Fronius Solar.web - If you have registered your Wattpilot on the Fronius Solar.web platform, LadeKosten can access your data through the cloud API. This allows monitoring from anywhere and is more reliable if your local network has connectivity quirks.

Both methods provide the same core data: energy consumed per session, charging power over time, and session timestamps. The cloud method may additionally provide solar production context if your Fronius inverter is also connected to Solar.web.

Supported models

Fronius offers two Wattpilot variants:

  • Wattpilot Home 11 kW / 22 kW - The wall-mounted charger designed for permanent home installation. Available in single-phase (11 kW) and three-phase (22 kW) versions. Both include a built-in energy meter and WiFi connectivity.
  • Wattpilot Go 11 kW / 22 kW - The portable version with the same smart features in a transportable form factor. Ideal if you charge at multiple locations or need a mobile solution. Same API, same LadeKosten compatibility.

Both models connect to your home WiFi and support the local WebSocket interface. Both can also be registered on Fronius Solar.web for cloud access.

Setting up Wattpilot with LadeKosten

For local connection: Make sure your Wattpilot is connected to your home WiFi. Find its IP address in your router's device list or in the Wattpilot's own WiFi settings. In LadeKosten, select Fronius Wattpilot, choose the local connection option, and enter the IP address along with the device password. The app establishes a WebSocket connection and begins streaming data immediately.

For cloud connection: Ensure your Wattpilot is registered on Fronius Solar.web. In LadeKosten, select Fronius Wattpilot, choose the cloud option, and sign in with your Solar.web credentials. The app syncs your session history and sets up automatic updates for future sessions.

In both cases, set your electricity rate per kWh in LadeKosten. If you have a Fronius PV system, you can optionally configure your feed-in tariff to see the value of solar energy used for charging.

Feature highlights

Dual connection options - Choose between local WiFi for speed and privacy, or cloud for remote access and convenience. You can even switch between them depending on your situation.

Real-time WebSocket data - The local connection streams live data to your phone. Watch your charging power, energy delivered, and cost update in real time as your car charges.

Fronius ecosystem integration - If you have a Fronius inverter and Smart Meter alongside your Wattpilot, LadeKosten can leverage the full energy flow data. See exactly how your solar production, home consumption, and EV charging interact.

Solar surplus tracking - When your Wattpilot charges in solar-surplus mode, LadeKosten tracks the split between solar and grid energy. Your cost calculation reflects only the electricity you actually purchased.

Portable charger support - Using a Wattpilot Go at different locations? LadeKosten can track sessions regardless of where you charge, helping you maintain a complete charging cost record.

Tax-ready reports - Generate detailed charging cost exports for tax filing. For company EV drivers in Germany, this documentation supports your home charging deduction claim with accurate, session-level cost data.

Getting the most from your Fronius setup

The Fronius Wattpilot shines brightest when it is part of a complete Fronius solar system. The inverter tells the Wattpilot how much surplus power is available, and the Wattpilot adjusts charging power dynamically. LadeKosten captures this entire dance, giving you a complete financial picture.

Over time, you can analyze patterns: how much of your summer charging was essentially free from solar, how winter months shift the balance toward grid consumption, and whether adjusting your charging schedule could save money.

For Wattpilot owners who want to turn their charging data into clear cost insights, LadeKosten is the missing piece. Join the waitlist to be notified when the integration is ready for testing.

Slik setter du det opp

1

Connect via local WiFi or Fronius Solar.web

LadeKosten can connect to your Wattpilot either directly over local WiFi using WebSocket or through the Fronius Solar.web cloud. Choose the method that suits your setup.

2

Pair your Wattpilot

For local connection, enter your Wattpilot's IP address and device password. For cloud connection, sign in with your Fronius Solar.web account. Either way, LadeKosten starts reading your charging data immediately.

3

Monitor costs alongside your PV production

LadeKosten tracks every charging session with full energy details. If your Wattpilot is integrated with a Fronius inverter, the app captures solar surplus usage for accurate cost calculations.

Ofte stilte spørsmål

Is the Fronius Wattpilot integration available now?

The Wattpilot integration is currently planned. We are developing support for both the local WebSocket API and the Fronius Solar.web cloud API. Join the waitlist to get early access.

Should I use the local or cloud connection?

If your Wattpilot is on the same WiFi as your phone and you want the fastest response with no internet dependency, use local. If you want to monitor from anywhere, or if your WiFi setup makes local connections unreliable, use the cloud option.

Which Wattpilot models are supported?

LadeKosten will support the Wattpilot Home (11 kW and 22 kW) and the Wattpilot Go portable charger. Both use the same communication protocols.

Does LadeKosten work with my Fronius inverter data?

If your Wattpilot is connected to a Fronius inverter via Solar.web, LadeKosten can access the energy flow data to determine how much of your charging came from solar production versus grid import. This makes your cost tracking more accurate.
